Meet Miss Adele and it that not a face you can fall in love with?? Little Adele entered our program on 11/11/11 and she has already captured the hearts of our volunteers and the entire staff of a Chicago Home Depot store that helped to build her a device to help with her rehabilitative therapy.
Adele is a puppy mill bulldog that was pulled by an insider before she was euthanized due to congenital issues. At just 6 weeks old it is difficult to have a firm diagnosis of her issues but her initial symptomatic issue is "swimmer puppy" where her inability to use her back legs is impacting the development of her front legs. Fortunately, she came to CEBR early in her life and we have already seen signs of improvement in her attempts to stand on her own in just 3 days working with our in-home physical therapy program. Many puppies with her condition die within less than 4 weeks of birth but this spunky little spitfire is not leaving us soon!
Adele will require a professional physical therapy consultation and treatment several times each week. We expect this to be very expensive based on our experience with other similar cases. Canine physical therapy can run from $60-100 per visit. It is still too early to say but Adele will most likely require several wheel chair carts to keep her mobile as she grows. We are trying to rebuild our critical care medical reserves in the event that some form of surgical intervention becomes an option for her.
